The Youth Forum strongly advocates for young people to be actively involved in decision-making processes, as well as in exercising democracy. In the decreasing general interest of young people for the public sphere and the elections in particular, we emphasise on participating and contributing to elections. We have our own pledges for the European Elections that we invite future MEPs to endorse. We have also initiated a non-partisan initiative and movement, the League of Young Voters.
Participation is not only about voting, but also about being involved in its community. To foster local participation, with a European dimension, we have launched the European Youth Capital. For 2013, the award was granted to Maribor (Slovenia). Thessaloniki (Greece) will follow for 2014, followed by Cluj Napoca (Romania) in 2015. Community involvement is necessary at all levels.
We strongly support active involvement of young people at the European level via the Structured Dialogue.
