YFJ welcomes the Youth Employment Network's guide on collaboration for youth employment
On 9 October the international Youth Employment Network (YEN) launched ‘Joining Forces with Young People: A Practical Guide to Collaboration for Youth Employment' , as a side event to the 62 nd Session United Nations General Assembly, in New York . The European Youth Forum (YFJ) appreciates the work undertaken by the YEN's Youth Consultative Group as it shows the added value that global cooperation between youth organisations can bring to policy making in the field of employment.
This practical publication aims at advising youth organisations on how to facilitate and motivate young people's participation in making and implementing policies on youth employment, and demonstrates the fruitful cooperation between policy makers and stakeholders: YEN's Youth Consultative Group is lead by the Coordinating Meeting of Youth Organisations (ICMYO) in cooperation with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations and the World Bank.
‘The launch of YEN's guide has been a unique opportunity to present the latest achievements of the YFJ‘s advocacy strategy on the European Youth Pact in 2007 at the United Nations General Assembly', points out Bettina Schwarzmayr , President of the European Youth Forum. Since the EU Spring Summit in March 2007, the YFJ has developed a lobby strategy aimed at raising awareness among the EU Institutions and the EU Member States about the need to give a new impetus to the ‘European Youth Pact', at the time of the revision of the ‘Lisbon Integrated Guidelines on Growth and Jobs' and in view of the last cycle of the ‘Lisbon Strategy 2008-2010'.
The YFJ's advocacy work regarding the ‘European Youth Pact in 2007' aims to serve as a good example, at the global level, of the role that youth organisations can play in finding solutions to the problems that young people are facing today.
