Objectives of the Youth Summit , 23- 25
March 2007
-
Initiate debates at the national, regional and local level which are organised by NYCs/INGYOs in cooperation with representation offices of the Commission, the European Parliament information offices and the National Agencies of the Youth in Action Programme.
-
Involve young people from different social, economic, educational, cultural, ethnical and religious backgrounds and who are not necessarily members of youth organisations.
-
Establish a strong link between the Youth Summit and debates on the future of the EU at the national, regional and local level.
-
Build on the outcomes of the preparatory meeting in order to develop positions and opinion towards the Youth Summit.
-
Initiate the development of the “youth messages for the future EU”.
The themes of the Youth Summit
The discussion at the Youth Summit will be based on the discussion document produced at the pre-Summit and the input from the national debates and INGYO consultations. The discussions will be structured under the same thematic as the Youth Summit:
-
The future of the EU: what with the Constitutional Treaty?
-
A Social and Economic Model for Europe.
-
Sustainable Development.
-
Europe's role in a globalised world.
-
Building democracy and civil society in Europe.
-
Youth and Education in the EU.
Outcome of the Youth Summit
The main result of the Youth Summit should be a “message from youth on the future of the EU at the occasion of the 50 th anniversary”, based on the discussions on the six themes mentioned above. The conclusions will be presented to the EU institutions in a high-visibility session and discussed in a final Round Table Debate. It will also be presented to a wider audience via internet streaming.
