OBESSU is the European platform of national school student organisations and unions. It was founded in April 1975 in Dublin, Ireland. Today, it represents 24 member organisations in 18 European countries and has contacts with observer and contact organisations in a further 10 countries.
- Objectives
- Fight all forms of inequality in European education systems
- Promote solidarity among young people in Europe in general and school students in particular
- Represent the school students as stakeholders of their educational systems, and in issues in their lives
- Provide support to the national school student unions and co-operate for the development of school student structures;
- Encourage and enable exchange of experience and good practices among the national school students unions;
- Promote equal access to education
- Strive for the end of all discrimination and injustice within the educational systems;
- Contribute to the development of democratic education systems in Europe, that promotes active citizenship in all forms;
- Promote solidarity and understanding between young people;- Activities
- OBESSU organises approximately 5 conferences per year all dealing with education-related topics.
- Fight for the interests of all school students in Europe;
- Represent our Member Organisations towards the relevant bodies and institutions;
- Act as a coordinating body for national and regional representative school student organisations
- Establish partnership/cooperation between the educational stakeholders;
- Organises activities for our member organisations (seminars, training courses, conferences, round tables, etc.);
- Work on the establishment/ development/ strengthening of school student structures
- Encourages and support students to stand up and organize themselves on national level
- Act as a resource and information centre for the different school student initiatives
- Publish a monthly newsletter and a six-monthly magazine (“There to Share”) for our partner organizations;
- Publish different materials/ manuals for school student organizations and promote existing ones.- Structure
