Our Council of Members, Amiens 2019
A new vision for the next four years, a new policy paper, resolution and declaration, as well as growing membership - thank you to all for another amazing COMEM!
Our bi-annual Council of Members (COMEM) arrived in Amiens, France, this month, taking place 21-23 November. Once again the agenda was full of big topics to discuss as young people from all over Europe came together to debate and put forward their ideas for the future work of the European Youth Forum
We are very excited that as a result of these discussions and a wider consultation with our members, the European Youth Forum has a new Strategic Plan 2020-2023. This vision document will guide us for the next four years on how we will represent the rights and interests of young people. Thank you to everyone who helped us to shape this Strategic Plan. We can’t wait to get to work!
The COMEM also approved a policy paper on one of the big challenges that we are facing, the Future of Work. This new policy paper follows the Youth Forum’s publication, “The Future of Work and Youth”, and outlines how we must ensure that all young people’s social and economic rights are met as the world of work changes.
Other urgent issues were also brought to the agenda. We are very proud that the Youth Forum now has adopted a resolution on Expanding Space for Youth Organisations, National Youth Councils and International Non-Governmental Youth Organisations and a Declaration on the 20th University on Youth and Development.
The Youth Forum family has also expanded further. As a result of a vote at this month’s COMEM, we are excited to welcome the National Youth Council of Turkey (GoFor), as an Observer Member, making them the 44th National Youth Council to join our platform! We are also delighted to that the Youth Express Network (Y-E-N) is now a Full member, and the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions Youth (CESI Youth) is now a Candidate member. Congratulations to all.
We would like to once again thank the city of Amiens and Amiens For Youth for hosting the COMEM as well as for organising the European Youth Capital Award Ceremony on Thursday 21 November. We look forward to seeing how young people will #YouthUp the city in 2020!
