A university, cultural and sports city, Maribor has numerous opportunities to offer young people. It can strengthen and develop competences and skills that young people need in their daily lives, whereas at the same time explore different opportunities on how to spend their leisure time and be entertained.
Maribor as European Youth Capital
With the candidacy application for the European Youth Capital title, the city of Maribor pursued the following objectives:
- To create conditions for the development of an environment that will encourage and support young people to develop and achieve their own potentials, self-reliance and creativity;
- To enable the participation of young people in decision-making processes that directly or indirectly affects lives of young people within the local community;
- To enable faster and higher quality of response of individuals and groups to individual, social and intergenerational needs.
The main objective was to improve the quality of life and to foster youth participation in decision-making processes at the local level, whereas contribute to a facilitated development of the local community based on the values of solidarity and nondiscrimination.
2013 symbolised youth. It was a year of opportunities, innovative projects and creative thinking.
