European Youth Capital 2024 - meet the candidates!
We are very excited to introduce the list of candidate cities for European Youth Capital 2024!
Each year, we award a new European city the title of European Youth Capital, putting the spotlight on youth empowerment, boosting youth participation and strengthening European identity.
Through the title of European Youth Capital, we invite young people to reimagine how they engage with life and decision-making in their city. Across the continent, our European Youth Capital winners are leading the way with innovative ideas, projects and activities aimed at raising up young people’s voices and bringing a new youth perspective.
Who will join them as European Youth Capital for 2024?
The applicant cities are (in alphabetical order) :

Chisinau (Moldova)
Ghent (Belgium)
Istres (France)
La Louvière (Belgium)
Lublin (Poland)
Lviv (Ukraine)
Szekesfehervar (Hungary)
Veszprem (Hungary)
Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal)
The European Youth Forum is delighted to see these cities taking steps towards a more youth friendly urban environment. We look forward to the next stage of the selection process and wish every applicant the best of luck!
What happens next?
To award the title, the European Youth Forum convenes an independent Jury composed of representatives of international and European institutions, civil society experts, youth representatives, local and regional authorities and journalists.
The Jury members assess the applications and shortlist up to five cities for the second round of the competition. The shortlisted cities will be announced on 9 March 2021.
In the second round of the competition, the shortlisted cities will have to submit a more detailed application outlining an extensive programme of youth-related cultural, social and political events and activities.
They will also receive recommendations from the independent Jury and a Focus Group and will submit their final, updated applications in September 2021.

The winner will be announced in November 2021 at the official EYC 2024 Award Ceremony.
The current European Youth Capital is Klaipeda, Lithuania; while Amiens, France, European Youth Capital 2020, will continue delivering its programme in 2021, due to the disruption brought by the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
