Gearing up for the Word Conference on Youth in Colombo!
The World Conference on Youth 2014, which will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from the 6th to the 10th of May at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), will see around 1,500 youth representatives gather together, including delegates from the Youth Forum.
This high-level event seeks to provide an inclusive platform for young people, youth experts, civil society organisations, Ministers of Youth and other relevant stakeholders from all over the world, to come together and discuss the topic of ‘Mainstreaming Youth Participation in the Post-2015 Development Agenda’.
The discussion will be mainly focused on the following themes: Realising equal access to quality Education, Full Employment and Entrepreneurship, Poverty Eradication and Food Security, Promoting Healthy Lives and Access to Health, Environmental Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Youth Centered Urbanisation, Realising peace, Reconciliation and Ending Violence, Ensuring inclusive recreation, and Sports and Culture.
Lloyd Russell, the vice-president of the Youth Forum will speak in the panel "Mainstreaming Youth in the Post-2015 Agenda – Looking back " on Wednesday 7th May.
The Colombo Declaration on Youth will be the main outcome of this meeting. It will be a governmental and youth co-created document and will include about 60 different points under 14 areas of action with a preamble and conclusions. Government representatives and young people will have a joint meeting and produce a joint outcome document, making this meeting in Colombo unique. We are looking forward to participating in this meeting and will publish a press release on its outcomes when the conference is over.
