AI is already in Schools. Now What? A necessary change in European education

08/05/2026

Artificial intelligence has already transformed education across Europe. In 2025, 63.8% of young people aged 16–24 in the EU used generative AI tools, which is nearly twice the share among the general population. 90% of Estonian secondary school students use AI applications, with many
being weekly users of these tools. This reality is mirrored across European schools where young people are increasingly turning to ChatGPT, Claude, and other large language models to complete homework, get explanations, and save time.

AI-based technology is not coming to classrooms, it’s already there. Second, the societal impacts of AI are going undiscussed. AI touches the environment, mental health, social bonds, creativity, and how we perceive media and information. Young people deserve to understand and debate these consequences and to develop their own considered positions on them.

Yet the educational systems tasked with preparing young people for adult life have largely failed to respond. Read the motion to find out more.
