Funding the future: How the EU pays for its priorities

17/06/2026 | Online

The EU’s long-term budget is mainly funded through contributions from member states - the different sources of revenue that finance EU spending, such as national contributions, VAT-based income, and customs duties. But these are not enough! That’s why a proposal is discussed for new own resources.

What to expect?

Through clear explanations and practical framing, you will learn how to:

  • Understand how the EU budget is currently financed

  • Explore different options and debates around increasing EU revenue (own resources)

  • See how budget decisions connect to priorities that affect young people

The session will also create space to reflect on why EU financing choices matter for policy-making and for the future of youth-related actions in Europe.

Who is it for?

Open to anyone interested in understanding and explaining how the EU funds its priorities. It welcomes young people, practitioners, and those working on budgets - whether you are experienced or just getting started, and whether you work at EU, national, or local level.

This event is organised as part of the European MOSAIC project.
