Understanding the EU Long-term budget (MFF): Where to start?

27/10/2026 | Online

The EU's long-term budget is one of the most important negotiations that the EU is currently engaged in. Currently, the EU is discussing the size of the budget and how much money will be allocated across priorities. Opportunities for young people, whether that is youth programmes like Erasmus+, climate initiatives, or labour schemes, all depend on this allocation process. The new budget will be set in 2028 and will influence EU investment over the following seven years (2028–2034). This will have a big impact on millions of people across the EU and beyond!

However, these discussions often seem far removed from the reality experienced by citizens, particularly young people, across Europe. The webinar wants to contribute to changing this.

What to expect?

Through clear explanations and examples, you will:

  • Get some background information on the EU's long-term budget and where its current negotiations are at.
  • Learn about the consultations currently taking place across Europe on the EU long-term budget and their results.

The session will give you a starting point for understanding the EU long-term budget that will influence the lives of millions of Europeans and beyond.

Who is it for?

The webinar is open to anyone interested in understanding and exploring the EU long-term budget. Young people, practitioners, and those curious about the EU are all welcome, whether you are experienced or just getting started, and whether you work at EU, national, or local level.

This event is organised as part of the European MOSAIC project.
