Across Europe, younger generations are facing unprecedented economic, social and environmental insecurity. This uncertainty is felt across all age groups, with voters from all generations increasingly turning to the far right for answers. Recent polls and election results show that young people, like the broader electorate, are being influenced by these anti-democratic forces that prey on feelings of dissatisfaction.
This shift is often a reaction to systemic insecurity. This includes the prevalence of poverty, precarious work, a home affordability crisis, and a mental health crisis. Many young people feel abandoned by democratic institutions. Addressing this political exclusion and the undermining of youth rights is essential to countering the anti-democratic forces that prey on such dissatisfaction.
